At Cann Hall we are currently forging close links with two schools in Ghana – Sabronum and Shalom Complex. We have been fortunate enough to be able to communicate with children in Ghana, and have been busy writing and receiving letters. We have even been swapping work projects so we will be able to learn the things that Ghanaian children learn and we will see what life in another country is like, without leaving the classroom! Our Headteacher, Mrs Reece, visited Ghana last year, and she brought back lots of photographs, traditional Kente Cloth, Ghanaian chocolate and some messages from the children. We are aiming to become global citizens.

Recently Peter Jones and Winifred Gilles visited our school to present the children with 5 Djembe drums. These had been specially made and engraved for Cann Hall by the children in Elikem School in Ghana. Peter explained how the drums were made, from the selection of the tree to the creation of the drum skin. As part of this assembly a drum dedication ceremony took place, in which the children were actively involved. The whole assembly was greeted with much enthusiasm and excitement by all of the children, who look forward to playing the drums in their music lessons.

Reception

Jessica wrote three sentences about the Jack and the Beanstalk story. She managed to write a lot of the words herself and used her ERR skills with the teacher to spell the harder words.

Year 1

Billy made a model of a volcano using newspaper and modroc.

He also made a volcano sunset picture using chalks and pastels.

Chloe made a book about volcanoes. This is the front cover.

Chloe found out lots of facts about volcanoes to write in her book. She created the picture on the second page using the computer.

Year 2

Taylor drew this dragon and coloured it in with wax crayons. She then painted Brusho over the top. This was part of her work on dragons and Chinese New Year.

Year 2 have been looking at Shrek 2 this term. The class were asked to choose one of the characters from the DVD and make a mask of the character. Amy drew a design for this mask first. She then made her mask out of cardboard, painted it and decorated it using collage.

EXCUSES EXCUSES!
In 3H we read a poem by Allan Ahlberg called ‘Excuses’. Then I made up my own one…

EXCUSES…EXCUSES….by Georgia

“A rabbit’s got my shoe, Miss.
My pencil’s gone all blunt.
Someone’s snoring too loud, Miss.
My book is back to front!”

“George has scribbled on my work, Miss.
I’ve smudged mine with my scarf.
Leah has turned into a flamingo, Miss.
My ruler’s broke in half!”

“Mr.Hardwick is eating a pencil, Miss.
My work’s fell in the bin.
Everyone’s screaming quite loud, Miss.
The ceiling’s coming in!”

“I’ve lost my pencil lead, Miss.
I’ve held a poison pen.
I can’t find my book ,Miss
So can we start again?”

The Spooky Message

On Monday 6th September in class 4P at Cann Hall School, there was a scary message that suddenly appeared up on the smart board (an interactive white board.)

A scared cat called Ka was in trouble. The cat said that time was running out, the festival was upon him and they were going to get him, “It’s really frightening,” said Ben.

The children in 4P are going to try to keep in touch with the newspaper.

Year 6

Should Shrek Take the Potion or Not?

Shrek went to find some potion to make him look good, also for Fiona, so that she’ll love him more and that he might be accepted into the royal family. Whilst Shrek was walking through the dark shaded forest, with the potion in his hand, he was deciding whether he should drink it not. Him and Puss in Boots were sure that he should take the potion but Donkey didn’t feel right.

If Shrek took the potion he and Fiona will live happy ever after. However Shrek will do anything for Fiona so he should take the potion to make everything right and so instead of Fiona being upset she will be happy. Shrek wants to be popular and he can’t be that if he doesn’t take the potion. He will be the same old, grumpy, ugly ogre and he wants to be a happy human being so he should take the potion. If Shrek took the potion Fiona might love him more; he’s done something for her. Also he might be accepted in the royal family.

If Shrek took the potion he could turn out popular and handsome, nevertheless his hair could start falling out. Also he might turn out instead of being wealthy he could turn out really poor and won’t be able to pay the mortgage for his swamp and can’t buy nice stuff for Fiona and Donkey. However, he could also turn out to have a medical problem because he didn’t read the ingredients.

Even though Shrek wants to win Fiona before Prince Charming does, he could turn out really ugly and Fiona wont like to be seen with him and she would like to be seen with Prince Charming. I think he shouldn’t take the potion because he doesn’t know if he would be able to go back into an ogre and he might be really ugly, people would think of him as an embarrassment for the rest of his life.

So, to summarise, Shrek shouldn’t take the potion because it could contain an ingredient that Shrek is allergic to and he could have an attack and die. Then Prince Charming could marry Fiona and Shrek would have to let her go. However, if he does take it, the potion will make him look good and be popular. Fiona will love him for doing something for her and he will live happily ever after. I think he should take the potion because at the moment he is arguing with Fiona’s parents but if he does this for her they will realise how much he loves her and will accept him. What do you think?

Should Shrek Drink the Potion ?

Shrek went on a hunt to find a potion that would turn him and his wife Fiona into humans; therefore they would be accepted as man and wife. Shrek is so desperate that he sneaks into the Fairy Godmother’s cottage and steels a happily ever after potion. Shrek is outside in the woods with the mysterious, magical potion in his shaky, green hands. Puss thinks shrek should drink the potion, since the potion said it would turn make beautiful. Donkey isn’t to sure; he may become very ill, but Shrek really wants to discover if the potion will solve his problems.

Shrek should drink the potion because the label says that it will turn him into a human. If he does drink the potion he will have to accept the consequences, if something does go wrong. Shrek should drink the potion if he wants to be able to live happily ever after and if he wants to get the King and Queens blessing. Furthermore Shrek will be able to fit in with everyone in his surroundings – he will look normal. If the potion is drunk Shrek and Fiona’s love will probably grow stronger because they will be able to live their lives like normal people.

In addition, if he drinks the potion Fiona will know how much Shrek loves her, as he is prepared to take these risks for her. Finally shrek will love Fiona more, as she will be as beautiful on the outside as well as on the inside.

The potion says it will turn them into beautiful humans, nevertheless he may have an allergic reaction to an ingredient in the potion. As a result to this Shrek may develop sores and blisters around his mouth, which will make him even uglier. Therefore Shrek should not drink the potion. Moreover the potion may not work on ogres and he may be extremely ill. The unknown liquid may be out of date and if he drinks this, the potion may not do what it says on the label. Also the potion may have the wrong ingredients in, consequently another ingredient could have disastrous effects – he could become an animal. If he does drink the potion and something goes wrong Fiona wouldn’t be that pleased and she may not love him as much.

As previously mentioned if shrek drinks the potion he would get the King and Queens blessing but if something does go wrong the King and Queen might not give their blessing to him, and Fiona might get even more upset. Some people believe that whatever it says on a label the thing will do. Furthermore the potion may make Shrek be rushed to hospital and he could die and Fiona will be so upset about it. The potion may give Shrek an illness that will make him have trouble breathing and therefore he may have to stay in hospital for quite a while and Fiona may not know where Shrek is. The potion may affect Fiona in an extremely bad way and she may also be allergic to something in the potion.

Fiona would be extremely upset if the potion affected her, and her mum and dad would not be very pleased with what happened. The potion may not change Fiona, as a result Shrek would probably be very upset.

In conclusion, if Shrek does drink the potion he would have to accept the consequences if something bad does happen. The ogre needs to consider if his love for Fiona is more important to him than his own life. I would choose not to drink the potion because I could die, or turn very ill, despite the fact that, if I did drink it I would be beautiful and I would get the King and Queens blessing. Both sides of the argument have been presented to you, so do you think Shrek should drink the mysterious potion?
