Cann Hall Primary School was opened in 1976 to serve the Cann Hall housing estate and surrounding area. It was originally a purpose built open plan school with extra accommodation provided by re-locatable classrooms. Over the years the school buildings have been remodelled so there are separate class bases and every child is taught in one of the main school buildings. Cann Hall caters for up to 420 primary (5 – 11 years) aged children. The school remains under the control of the Local Education Authority.

The school is very proud of the facilities it has for the children.

There is a colourful, well-equipped library that it used by the children throughout the day.

The large computer suite enables a whole class of children to develop their I.C.T. skills

The school grounds include a large playing field, hard surface playgrounds and adventure apparatus.

Arrangements can be made to visit the school by appointment with the Headteacher, who will be pleased to meet parents and prospective pupils, show them the school and provide further information.

Parents are able to call in at the school office from 8.30 am for general enquiries or to leave messages for class teachers. Appointments can also be made to see class teachers at a later time. The school office closes at 4.30 pm.

To help ensure a safe environment, all visitors during the school day are asked to report to the school office.

Living, Learning and Loving it

At Cann Hall Primary School we provide creative, child-centred learning in a happy, safe and caring environment.

We promote excellence, celebrate achievement and support and challenge each individual.

Independence, self-sufficiency and respect of others is encouraged, as is making a positive contribution to the life of our school and the wider community.

Our School Aims

There are only three main aims at our school

1. Be Kind

2. Be Safe

3. Be Responsible

These aims underpin all that we do in school. Each aim is discussed with the children and each class draws up indicators of what these look like in their classroom and around school. Therefore the children have an ownership and an understanding of what is expected of them and they are appropriate to their age and level of understanding.

The Staff and Governors of Cann Hall Primary School are committed to provide the very best education for the children within the resources available to them.

Our primary aim is to provide a broad and balanced co-ordinated curriculum, which is rich, varied, challenging and exciting. We are committed to seeing each child as an individual and will endeavour to offer each child the opportunity to fulfil his or her full potential both socially and academically.

Classes are organised on a mixed ability basis where much of the work is from first hand experience and properly differentiated to meet individual and groups needs. The work is designed to enable children to understand the interrelationship of many areas of learning.

To deliver such a programme we have staff of the highest calibre and we ensure that they are given appropriate training time, resources and recognition for the work they do. Their views and ideas are sought and valued and they all feel an ownership of the development of the school. Their particular skills and strengths are fully utilised and their professional development is an issue of the highest priority.

We also seek to develop the role of the Governors in discharging their overall responsibility for the school.

We strive to maintain the happy team spirit, which prevails in the school, which enables co-operative, professional development and support and promotes the process of continuing review. We shall continue to build upon our achievements and recognise our professional responsibility to adapt to changing circumstances and meet successfully new challenges.

School Uniform

What should my child wear to school?

The school encourages the wearing of uniform and it is hoped that parents will continue to support this policy. We believe school uniform promotes smartness, good discipline and a feeling of identification with the school. School sweatshirts, T-shirts with the school logo, skirts, dresses, trousers, hats, book bags, and PE bags are on sale from the school office every afternoon after school, except Friday afternoon. The school uniform is as follows -

Boys

• Red polo shirts with school logo

• Navy blue school sweatshirt with logo

• Grey trousers.

Girls

• Red polo shirt with school logo

• Navy blue sweatshirt with logo

• Grey skirt or black trousers

• Red and White check summer dresses

• Blue summer dresses

Footwear:

We encourage the wearing of black, shoes.
It is helpful if infants have shoes with Velcro fastening.

Naming:

Please ensure all items of clothing are marked with an indelible pencil or name-tag. This enables us to return lost items immediately.

• Black indoor plimsolls and trainers

• Black games shorts,

• Red T Shirt with logo.

• Tracksuit top and Tracksuit trousers (black, blue or grey)

• Leotards (optional)

Slipper Bag:

All children should have a named P.E. kit bag, which may be left, in school. It is helpful if boys bring their football boots in a polythene bag especially on wet days.

Please note which days your child has P.E./Games and ensure they have their kit on the days required – Thank you

Arts & Crafts: An apron or overall is advisable for craftwork.

PTA

There is an active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at our school. This invaluable Association was formed in 1993 to provide the school with both financial and practical support, all parents are automatically members of the P.T.A.

The P.T.A. organises social and fundraising events throughout the year including a Christmas Fayre, Summer Fete, plus a number of social events including a Quiz Evening and Car Boot Sales. They also provide ongoing support for various school activities as well as one off projects.

The officers of the Association are elected annually. Membership of the committee is open to anyone who expresses an interest.

The PTA is always looking for new parents to join the committee, please do try to volunteer as all the money raised directly benefits all the children at our school.
