Sports at Cann Hall

Physical Education is regarded as an important part of the curriculum at Cann Hall.

The school runs a number of teams which enter competitive competitions in the Colchester and Clacton area.

The school has football, netball and hockey teams, which enter league and cup competitions and play friendly matches with neighbouring schools.

In addition, school teams enter various sporting events and competitions including cross-country, athletics, rounders, cricket and touch rugby.

Each summer the school holds traditional sports days for Reception, Years 1 and 2, Years 3 and 4 and Years 5 and 6.

Scroll down to read the children’s guide to some of our sporting activities. (Also visit the Sports section in the Curriculum page for more information or check the Upcoming Events Page of the Have You Heard Section.)

The choir takes place in the small hall every Tuesday it is on from three till four. We were invited to sing to the old people, who really enjoyed it, at Tang Hall residential home. We were also invited to sing 'The Swallow Tale' at the Town Hall.

We sing in our school assemblies too! Our most recent concert was Ocean World we sang it at Colbaynes High School; all the money we raised went to help the whales survive longer in the ocean from the toxic waste and the rubbish.

It is run by GREAT teachers, Mrs Bareham & Miss Hayes! It is for years 4, 5 and 6, since we have to learn lots of words!

The Cann Hall Choir perform at the Tendring Youth Awards 2007 - where they received an award!

Dance club takes place on Friday from 3pm until 4pm.The club, which is exciting, is for the juniors, (years 3,4,5,6). This club attracts girls and boys. and approximately 20 people attended.

Before we choreography the dances we have one of the members come to the front of the small hall and do the warm up. We do some complicated moves in the street dances. At the end we do a cool down to relax our muscles from all of our hard dancing.

Our dance teachers are Miss Hayes and Miss Pryke.

Funky foods was a great club, children and their parents could attend. Everyone who went enjoyed it a lot. It finished just before the Christmas holidays. It was run by Amanda with help from Mrs Specht. It was held on a Monday, 3:00 until 4:30.

We have been trying lots of different fruits like Apples, bananas, oranges, mango, pears, coconuts, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, grapes, cucumber, tomatoes, melon and watermelon. We made yoghurts, animals with fruit pieces and milkshakes.

At this club we were encouraged to try new foods and to eat healthily. We were also allowed to take home some of the food.

Homework club is on a Wednesday 3pm till 4pm.It is good to attend this club, since you get all your homework done so you don’t have work at the weekend.

Our supervisors are Lee & Janet they help us with our homework by talking through the homework tasks with us. We can choose to go in the computer room, which is a real treat, or the colourful well-resourced library.

This was a fun and exciting club for year 3 which ran last term.

It gave you the opportunity to use lots of different items such as parachutes, balls, skipping ropes, hoops and even some circus items such as juggling clubs and spinning plates.

The children who took part really enjoyed the club because it gave them the experience to use lots of different equipment.

This club takes place on a Friday afternoon at 3.00-4.00 with Miss Reeves and Miss Ross. It’s an exhilarating club for girls and is full of helpful things to improve your computer skills.

We play games, learn Internet safety, and, go on-line at www.cc4g.net and we do challenges to earn certificates.

Mrs Blyth ran the games and puzzle club. It was great fun. A few of the games were catch me if you can, snakes and ladders, and lots more.

We learned how to play the games. The timing was 3:00-4:00pm.It was on Tuesday after school. We were allowed to go on the computer and we could play board games and we got given things from Miss Hayes classroom.

Only year 2 were allowed to join. The games were fantastic and everyone enjoyed them. We had such pleasure coming.

Step 2: Clear all the over grown bushes and brambles. Tidy up the rubbish on the floor.

Step 3: Build the wooden fence.

Step 4: Plant all the new trees and the vegetable patch.

Hockey Club takes place on a Friday. It is a highly popular club and is taken by Miss Pryke and Miss Hayes who are brilliant coaches.

The hourly hockey session is split into half an hour of exceptionally hard training and skills, and half an hour of matches. The training and skills work involves tricky moves such as nutmegs, reverse stick, penalty taking and goalkeeping.

There are a variety of matches we take part of including no goalkeepers (which improves defence) and three hit hockey (which improves skill work).

Hockey Club is one of the best after school activities, which is popular with both boys and girls.

These are some Hockey rules:

l The ball must not touch your feet.

l You are not allowed to shoot outside the semi-circle.

l You are not allowed to gang up on the person with the ball.

l You are not allowed to hit the ball with the back of your stick.

l The ball must not leave the floor.

l You must wear shin-pads

The hockey season is coming up so if you have a passion for Hockey come along. We will keep you informed with are Hockey news.

Girls football club is on a Friday, 3pm until 4pm. We all get on very well and are excellent teammates. Cann hall were going to play a match against Coppins Green but unfortunately Mr Hardwick, who is our manager, came down with the flu.

We will be playing some matches this term. There are 9 girls in the team (2 are subs). Our outstanding captain Jodie cheers us on to shoot goals she lets us all have a shot with the ball Mr Hardwick has done a magnificent job of teaching us all that football isn’t all about shooting goals its to work as a team and that’s what we have been doing since we have joined the team.

Mr Hardwick picks different girls for every match we play to make it fair. Our teammates are always there to help.

Miss Hatton, Mrs Neale, Mr Smith, Mrs Austin and Mrs Kearnes ran Christmas club. It was enjoyable and started at three and finished at four.

At Christmas club we cooked some cakes and made cards and boxes. We also made a bauble, which we hung on our Christmas tree. We put our cakes in our boxes and this is only a selection of the things we did.

It was fun and exciting, full of laughter and everyone was as happy as hippos. We all liked the last day because we all got chocolate.
